Heat pumps must be certified and compliant with regulations to be more saleable in all markets. In this article, we will explore how the EUROVENT, HP Keymark and SG Ready certifications and the classic energy label, in compliance with the ErP Directive, can give value to heat pumps and make them saleable in all markets.

Heat pumps use the renewable energy of air or water or in the subsoil to heat, cool and produce hot water for domestic use, guaranteeing great efficiency and significant financial savings. But what are the certifications that allow us to compare the various models and identify the one that best suits our needs?

Direttiva ErP ed etichetta energetica

Come ben tutti sanno, i principali elettrodomestici come la lavatrice, la lavastoviglie e il condizionatore sono dotati di un’etichetta energetica. A partire dal 2015, in base al Regolamento Ecolabel contenuto nella Direttiva ErP (Energy related Products), anche le pompe di calore devono essere abbinate ad apposite etichette in cui il consumatore possa reperire tutte le informazioni relative alla loro efficienza energetica.

Per quanto riguarda le pompe di calore, ma anche le caldaie a condensazione e i microcogeneratori, la normativa ha previsto una scala di classificazione dalla A++ alla G, oltre a indicare la potenza del dispositivo espresso in kW e il rumore di funzionamento. Non solo: le soluzioni che vengono impiegate sia per il riscaldamento che per la produzione di acqua calda sanitaria devono indicare la loro classe energetica in maniera separata.

Essendo regolamentata uniformemente in tutta Europa, l’etichettatura rappresenta uno strumento molto utile per valutare complessivamente le prestazioni delle pompe di calore e in generale dell’intero sistema di riscaldamento, sia nel caso di nuovo impianto che quando viene effettuata una riqualificazione.

EUROVENT: certification for air conditioning systems

The classic energy label applies indiscriminately to the most diverse products, from televisions to computers and small household appliances. However there is also certification issued specifically for devices for heating, cooling and ventilation. It is called EUROVENT certification, the purpose of which is to ensure that the performance data of the various devices match those declared by the manufacturers. The real plus of this certification is that its standards, based on assessments that are as accurate and impartial as possible, are universally recognised.  The brand therefore guarantees great benefits for the final consumer, since it provides certainty of the quality of the devices purchased, but also for the producers, who can sell solutions of high performance that can be considered as such in every corner of the world.

The EUROVENT certification programme applies to a great many of Clivet’s solutions, including the “Water chiller units” up to 1,500 kW, the “Rooftop units” up to 200 kW, the “VRF” systems up to 100 kW, and all the “Air handling units”.

The HP Keymark certification for heat pumps

In the case of heat pumps, which as we all know represent the main "green alternative" to condensing boilers and which are absolutely among the most efficient solutions for providing heating, cooling and domestic hot water, the best-known certification is HP Keymark. The certification is the result of a voluntary process promoted by the EHPA (European Heat Pump Association) which aims to respond in the best possible way to the ever-increasing regulatory needs of heat pump manufacturers.

Local certifications: the example of SG Ready

There are marks and certifications reserved for heat pumps which are not valid throughout Europe, but are used only in certain countries. This is the case, for example, of the SG Ready mark introduced by the German BWP association, which is valid in Germany and Austria and which certifies the ability of heat pumps to communicate with the public electricity grid through a special interface called Smart Grid Ready.
